Facebook is reportedly closing off access to its hashtags API later this month. Tint, an audience management service, noted in an email to its users that the social network has scheduled deprecation of the API endpoint that allows it to access hashtag data on April 30.
Tint mentioned that the API in question began returning errors yesterday, and said Facebook confirmed it is no longer supporting the API used for hashtags. This means that social media management services that plug into Facebook won’t be able to access hashtag-related data and stats.
For its part, Tint says it’s working with Facebook to bring back the hashtag API. It’s not clear why Facebook has already deprecated the API, when the scheduled date for doing so is nearly a month away.
The move might mean that the social network is planning to offer hashtag data management tools of its own, but we’ll have to wait and see what Facebook has up its sleeve.
We’ve contacted Facebook for more information and will update this post when we hear back.
